Retention period (fixing) – retainers help maintain teeth in the position that has been already achieved. After the treatment is over and the braces are removed, in order to conform the results achieved a retainer will be made within a few hours– a fixing apparatus. A removable retainer is a plastic base plate or kappa; a retainer is supposed to be used (to be worn) at night. |
A fixed retainer is attached using special glue to the back side of the teeth and always stays in the patient's mouth. In the case of damage or loss of the retainer it is necessary to visit the orthodontist within the next 24 hours to prevent any changes to the location of the teeth. The main element in succesful orthodontic treatment is a positive attitude for victory. |
